ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Lisa Burns is a water media artist based in West Fargo, North Dakota, whose paintings celebrate the landscapes, wildlife, and rural character of the Upper Midwest. Raised on a farm near Downer, Minnesota, she draws inspiration from the places, animals, and seasonal rhythms that shaped her childhood. Her work has been described as realistic with post-impressionist influences, conveying a quiet sense of calm and connection.
Inspired by the post-impressionists who documented the beauty of everyday life, Lisa believes that ordinary moments and familiar places deserve to be preserved through art. Whether painting expansive prairie landscapes, vibrant florals, or the wildlife of the region, she seeks to capture both the character and tranquility of her surroundings.
Lisa works primarily in watercolor, gouache, acrylic, watercolor pencil, and watercolor batik. She is drawn to water-based media for their expressive, fluid nature and the balance they require between intention and spontaneity. For her, the process is a continual reminder to let go of perfectionism, embrace unpredictability, and allow the paint to reveal its own possibilities.
An active member of the regional arts community, Lisa has served in board and officer positions with the Fargo-Moorhead Visual Artists and the Red River Watercolor Society. She is currently a member of Gallery 4, Red Door Art Gallery, Art of the Lakes, the Portrait Society of America, Outdoor Painters of Minnesota, Cormorant Area Art Club, Fargo-Moorhead Visual Artists, and the Red River Artist Network. She also served on the Arts for the Holidays committee, helping organize the annual event in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Lisa has exhibited widely throughout the region and has received numerous local and regional awards for her work. In 2023, she was honored as the Fargo-Moorhead Visual Artists' Artist of the Year.

Launch and Opening Reception
*** Fundingsland HeART for Homes
September 3, 2026
We invite you to join us as we launch Fundingsland HeART for Homes, a new community initiative inspired by the life and legacy of Lynn Fundingsland (1948–2025).
In partnership with Furniture Mission of the Red River Valley, the initiative will connect donated artwork from area artists with people accessing community housing supports, helping bring beauty, personality, and a sense of belonging into their homes. The initiative is funded through the Fundingsland Art for Equity Fund, managed by the FM Area Foundation.
This work continues the legacy of Lynn Fundingsland, a local artist, longtime Gallery 4 member, and advocate for accessible housing. Lynn believed deeply in the power of art and in creating a community where everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity.
