Oil Painting
Maddie Derby
Maddie was born and raised in Fargo, North Dakota. She spent most of her time growing up playing sports: swimming, soccer, and track and field. Art wasn’t on her mind at that time. Her passion for the arts grew as she travelled the world in her early 20s. She enjoyed visiting art museums and galleries and often found inspiration and the motivation to keep improving her own paintings. As Maddie says, “She loves the look oil paint gives and the emotion captured on the canvas.”
She started her painting career using old bottles of acrylic found in a basement box, then onto watercolor while living in South Korea, and finally, oil paint. She is predominantly self-taught and looks forward to taking a formal class to learn more about this particular medium.
She has a degree in Wildlife Biology from the University of North Dakota. So many of her paintings include wildlife. She is especially keen on birds as they are her favorite things to paint.
