Collages, Figure Drawing and Painting
Sherry Lee Short is a long-time resident of the Fargo-Moorhead area. She is currently in her final year of teaching at Minnesota State University Moorhead, where she has taught Drawing, Illustration, and courses in social and environmental justice since 1988. During her time at MSUM, she has been a recipient of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities’ Board of Trustees Outstanding Educator Award (2020) and the MSUM Dille Outstanding Lecturer Award (2021). Among her artistic achievements are three national and international wilderness artist residencies: Porcupine Wilderness State Park (Michigan, 2015), Isle Royale National Park (Michigan, 2018), and The Wild Residency (Ontario, Canada, 2019). Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
Short’s work has evolved over the years from a primary interest in figure drawing and painting to landscape explorations to her most current work, collages. Consistent throughout these bodies of work are an interest in details, the expressive qualities of value, and storytelling. The recent collages tap into her interest in puzzle solving.
You can see more of her work at Gallery 4 and you can follow her on Instagram @bluestem.studio and on her website, sherryleeshort.art.
