Oil and acrylic painting
Connie Riedman has a passion for blue skies and Minnesota lakes.
Connie Riedman's love for art began at an early age. She was raised on a farm south of Valley City, ND where she grew up appreciating the beauty of the rural landscape. It was also a perfect setting to nurture a child’s imagination, surrounded by endless things to do and make and play. This love of creating led her to a degree in Art Education at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, with later coursework at Minnesota State University, Moorhead. Over the years, much of her career has been spent teaching art to young people, encouraging their creativity, participating in their discoveries, and, hopefully, nurturing a love of art that will follow them throughout their lives.
Now retired from teaching, Riedman takes all the energy she put into fueling her students’ creativity and channel that into creating her own artwork. She enjoys having much more time to go out and paint on location (en plein air) and experience the landscape as she tries to capture it on canvas. She also loves to paint the everyday objects that surround us and help people see them in a new way. She paints in oil and acrylic. Riedman's style could be described as “painterly.” From across the room, her paintings might look fairly realistic, but, when viewed up close, they are quite “imperfect.” She strives to keep them fresh and spontaneous, letting the brushstrokes show, and giving the viewer a glimpse into how they were created.
Riedman currently lives in Fargo, North Dakota and joined Gallery 4 in 2016.
