Photography, encaustic art, jewelry and alphabetory
Dennis Krull creates works of art with bees wax.
Dennis Krull's interest in photography came from his perception of the world around us. He uses photography as a form of documentation to capture passing moments in time, and then share them with his family and friends.
His work varies between different subjects, styles and compositions he believes that the creative possibilities in photography to be endless and using Photoshop techniques that add new elements of expression to the work. Krull feels an image should provoke a feeling; it should inspire or trigger something very deep within the observer. The reward comes through the knowledge that each photograph tells a story; the creator of that image is the storyteller: a photographer.
Dennis has expanded his artist mediums to include encaustic painting. it is an ancient technique, dating back to the Greeks. Encaustic is the Greek word meaning "to heat or burn in" (enkaustikos.) heat is used throughout the process, from melting the beeswax and varnish to fusing the layers of wax. Encaustic consists of natural beeswax and dammar resin (crystallized tree sap.) The medium can be used alone for its transparency or adhesive qualities or used pigmented. Pigments may be added to the medium or purchased colored with traditional artists pigments. The medium is melted and applied with a brush or any tool the artist wishes to create an effect. Each layer is then reheated to fuse it to the previous layer.
With the technology and equipment available today, Dennis says he can't think of a more dynamic and exciting time to be a photographer and an encaustic artist! In addition, he also can't think of a more critical time to raise awareness of the limited pristine beauty still available in the world today.
