Acrylic and Digital Media
Mark Holter grew up in North Dakota and has loved art since he was young. He has always been involved with one medium or another, but never with the focus he has today. Up until a few years ago He has kept his art mostly private. Mark left North Dakota in 1989 for the US Navy and after 10 years of traveling the world, found himself back in North Dakota. He received a Bachelor of General Studies degree from Minot State University in Minot, ND in 2016. During his last semester, he decided to pursue art as more than just a hobby. Mark says he feels his art has become a way for me to express himself and to explore relationships with emotions, experiences, and the people in his life.
Mark actively paints as well as experiments in other mediums and works on building his artist’s resume and body of work. He has two incredible daughters, Grace and Jaimie, and his wife Krista. He enjoys communicating with people, but sometimes words can be restrictive. He enjoys hearing the feedback people share about him because of his art. He loves challenging people's concepts of what art should be, their views on different subjects, and their perceptions. It's how the receiver interprets his messages that fascinates him. He don't define completely as an abstract artist. Whichever medium and style he works in on a given piece is his method of communication. Working in an abstract style allows him to communicate more clearly. He says maybe it's my way of making sense out of chaos. Mark experiments with new materials in a mixed-media fashion. If asked to define himself as an artist, Mark says he is a communicator, translator, explorer, student and guide. He would like the viewer to see him, and the most honest way is through his art.
